Alex Sanchez was born in La Guaira, Venezuela. From an early age, he would help his mother make empanadas to sell them among family and friends, bringing out the unique and unparalleled Venezuelan flavour.
In 1998, he immigrated to Canada and worked at as DJ in Momentos, a Venezuelan restaurant during the day turned nightclub at night. Inside the menu they offered arepitas with cream. Alex suggested to incorporate the Venezuelan arepas as an item on their menu. The arepas became a staple of the place. Later on with his wife, they devoted themselves to make arepas once a week from their home. They became well-known gradually.
In April 2013, after 12 years of hard work, Alex was given the opportunity to open his own place. Alex, “El Gordo”, as he is known in the community, actively participates in events and offers catering services.
